FileAssurity Introduction
Functionality
FileAssurity allows you to protect and sign files, folders and archives, securely delete files and folders and securely send files and archives.
File Protection / Signing
You can protect, sign, unprotect, and verify single files, multiple files, or folders, in a single click.
Any type of file can be protected and/or signed, regardless of its file extension.
FileAssurity automatically compresses every file before protecting it enabling you to store and send even smaller secure files. (Note: some files cannot be compressed any further, for example, .pdf, .gif, .jpg, mpg)
Files are protected using the US approved algorithm AES at its strongest setting (256 bit). Information on the AES algorithm can be found on our web site.
Protected Archives
Multiple files can be stored in a protected archive (just like a .ZIP file but securely protected). This enables you to readily and conveniently protect multiple files or folders for long term storage or secure transmission.
You can add, view, extract, and delete files in an archive.
Archives can also be signed, allowing you to detect any attempt to alter the file contents.
FileAssurity uses similar compression ratios to WinZip. A FileAssurity to WinZip comparison chart can be found on our web site.
Secure Deletion of Files
Normally files are not removed completely from a disk when you delete them. It is possible for others to read them using various utilities that are widely available.
If you want to be certain that this cannot happen, you can use FileAssurity's Secure Delete facility. This writes data over the unprotected file multiple times (complying with the US DOD standard 5220.22-M) and then removes the file, making recovery of the file impossible. In addition, FileAssurity uses extra protection mechanisms to ensure file recovery utilities - for example, File Scavenger - cannot recover your files.
Secure Emailing of Files
Secure files can be sent using your default e-mail client directly from FileAssurity. FileAssurity automatically opens your default e-mail client and adds the selected files as attachments to the e-mail message.
